The authors

One built the system. One runs the firm.

The twelve IDR Principles emerged from that intersection. Every principle was tested against a production system across more than three thousand screening iterations before it was written in prose. The empirical foundation is not theoretical.

Stefan Whitwell, CFA, CIPM is an entrepreneur and founder. He founded Whitwell & Co., LLC, a nationwide SEC-registered investment advisory firm serving high-net-worth business owners and individuals, with a focus on family-office-level support, proactive tax strategy, and access to non-traditional investments. He also founded Living Prepared, LLC and Whitwell Tax & Ledger Co., LLC, and co-founded Chaos Holdings, LLC with Brandon Veldman.

His experience spans more than three decades across three continents. He began at James D. Wolfensohn, Inc., the M&A advisory boutique, before joining Goldman Sachs as one of the first non-MBAs admitted to the firm's post-graduate global investment banking training program, and later Credit Suisse First Boston. After working abroad, largely in Japan, he built a private investment company before returning to financial services and ultimately building his own advisory firm.

For this book, Stefan runs the practicing firm where every principle was tested. Whitwell & Co. manages real money for real clients under real regulatory oversight, and each principle was evaluated against that firm's compliance workflow before it was written down.
